As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you

"As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you”

Isaiah 66 v 13

Believers in Christ are often in need of God's comfort due to the sorrows and trials we experience through living in a fallen world  They also as a result of their faith in Christ experience the trials of this world's opposition which unbelievers know nothing of. Believers are told that in this world they shall have tribulation, and many are the afflictions of the righteous. It is God's will however that during such times God's children by faith in Christ Jesus experience His comfort. God assures them of His comfort in all their afflictions and sorrows (Psalm 23 v 4, 71 v 21, 86 v 17. Isaiah 40 v 1, 51 v 3, 12). We should then as believers seek the comfort God has promised and provided and not seek it in the things the ungodly world does.

God promises that He will comfort the believer not as a stranger or even a friend but as a mother ! The comfort and care of a mother is prompt, warm, indulgent, unwearied and great. Such is the loving comfort God it pleases God to show to His children. It is such a source of joy and thanksgiving to them (Isaiah 51 v 3).

One more thing however, it's the duty and privilege of believers comforted by God to comfort others. God often comforts us as believers in Christ that He might use us to comfort others (2 Corinthians 1 v 3, 4).
