“Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself”

"Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such a one as thyself"

Psalm 50 v 21

There are certain respects in which we are like God. God created us in His own image and though that has been marred by sin, some features of that image remain. We are personal beings with a moral sense and reason like God, but God isn't altogether like us.

  1. We can hide our sins from other people but it's impossible to do that with God, seeing God is all knowing unlike us.
  2. We sometimes are not as concerned about the little things in life as much as the big. God of course created and upholds the universe but don't think that means God isn't interested in the sins of each person, no matter how little a matter we think that is.
  3. We forget many of the sins we commit against God, but God doesn't, He calls them the abominable thing which He hates. God being holy and just means He must punish them.
  4. We don't always mean and do what we say but God does. He always keeps His threats and promises.

God then is very different to you in His estimate of your sins, it would be a terrible sight to see them as a holy God does. However, God delights in mercy and in His mercy forgives sinners but only on faith in Christ Jesus. On faith in Christ, God's love, care, comfort, protection and provision isn't like yours or anyone else, it is infinitely greater.

So, believer in Christ realise that your God is altogether different from you. Realising that seek God's help to become more and more altogether like God the Son. the Lord Jesus Christ.
