Trust in the Lord at all times

"Trust in the Lord at all times" Psalm 62v8

Here is something believers in Christ are to continually do, trust in the Lord. No matter our circumstances, how dark and difficult they maybe, we are to trust in the Lord (Isa 50v10). What blessings God promises to those who trust in Him - goodness (Ps 31v19), mercy (Ps 32v10), permanence (Ps 125v1), safety (Prov 29v25) and peace (Isa 26v3).

The great theologian Jonathan Edwards said there must be the following if we are to have a right trust in God.

  1. There must be a lively sense of our need of Him, and the insufficiency of all other things we might trust in. So often man would rather trust in anything in the world rather than trusting in God.
  2. There must be a firm belief in God's all sufficiency. We must believe in God's almighty power, that He is able to do everything for us that we need to have done.
  3. There must be a firm belief in God's merciful nature, and that He is willing to help us; a trusting in God is a trusting in His mercy and goodness.
  4. There must be a firm belief in God's truth and faithfulness to all His promises. There can be no trust in God if we don't believe His word, in the revelation He has given concerning Himself and all His gracious promises.
  5. There must be a love for God in the heart. As long as we remain God's enemies there is no such thing as trusting in God. We are the enemies of God until we trust God in Christ to save us a sinner. A fruit of this will be to love God in one's heart.
  6. There must be a hope in Him. We cannot be said to trust in God, except we hope that He will give us what we trust in Him for.

Whatever difficulties we are going through, no matter our trials and afflictions - you may say, as Job did, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him“ (Job 13v15).
