“Come before his presence with singing”

“Come before his presence with singing”

Psalm 100 v 2

One of the things believers in Christ have been denied during the last three months is being together to sing God's praises. It might even be the case when we are allowed to meet again that the government might not allow congregational singing.

Now singing can be something we enjoy doing but because of that it's possible to enjoy singing hymns and spiritual songs even when not right with God through faith in Christ Jesus. Believers can enjoy singing the praises of God but it's because they simply enjoy singing rather than being taken up with praising God. During Christian worship an all knowing God needs to see it comes from the heart, meaning what we sing, "Singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord" (Colossians 3 v 16). God would rather have a poor singer singing His praises from the heart, than a wonderful singer not singing from the heart or meaning what they sing.

You see it's no use saying that you cannot sing therefore you aren't going to do so. It is not something you may do or not do as a believer in Christ. God tells us in the text at the top, to come before His presence with singing. We are told in Isaiah 12 v 5 "Sing unto the Lord, for He hath done excellent things". It says in Ephesians 5 v 19 "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs." Told in James 5 v 13 "Is any merry? let him sing psalms."

The angels sing God's praises and it's something as believers we should do on earth and will do in heaven. One of the nicest things my late mum said to me when commenting on my hymn singing was, "Garry you have a terrible singing voice, but I can tell you really mean what you are singing." Believer in Christ if you have a desire to please God then no matter how good or bad a singer you are, sing God's praises from your heart meaning what you sing.

“Praise Him in cheerful, grateful songs;
To Him your highest praise belongs;
Tis He Who does your heaven prepare,
And Him you'll sing for ever there."
