Seeking The Lord

Seeking The Lord

God makes clear in His word that His hand shall be upon all those that seek Him, and that for good, and His wrath against those that forsake Him (Ezra 8 v 22).

Seeking God involves an awareness of our need of Him. Mankind in all its sinfulness doesn't think it needs God. However, when God begins to graciously work in their hearts, they realise how essential God is for life and eternity. King Solomon for all he had and could do, such was his power and wealth, realised life without God was futile. It will do us no good if we seek God in the wrong way. The only way we can come to and find God is in Christ. The word of God is clear, "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2 v 5). Jesus made clear, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14 v 6). Seeking God then involves earnestly crying to God to save you a sinner, to be merciful to you a sinner, in and through Christ Jesus.

What blessings belong to all who seek God in Christ. We are forgiven all our sins and kept by God's power, God promising to care for, provide for, guide, and protect all who seek Him in Christ. On top of that God promises that all the things of our lives, He works together for the great good of making us more and more like Christ.

Forsaking God is of course the very opposite. It is a refusal to acknowledge and obey God.  It is a turning our backs upon the Saviour, the Lord Jesus, God in His loving mercy has provided. There is nothing to be gained by this for it results in God's power and wrath being against us (Ezra 8 v 22).

So, seek God in Christ, knowing that in life, death and eternity the good hand of God will be on you, and that for good.
