Other People’s Disobedience of God Is No Excuse for Ours

A common reason and excuse for not living as God requires is that others don't. It's easy to find a bad example for us doing what we want. In the wrong behaviour of the ungodly world and even believers in Christ, we can find plenty of examples of not living as God requires.

The fact is if the ungodly world descended to the level of the worst example what a sorry state it would be in. Equally if believers in Christ descend to the worst example set by a believer, what a sorry state the church would be in. The people of Israel were not to follow the example of the ungodly nations around them (Leviticus 20 v 23). The believer in Christ is not to follow the example of weak believers but that of Christ Himself. Professing believers in Christ may not keep the Lord's Day, neglect to pray, live in a worldly way and not serve the Lord. However, that is no excuse for you to be the same and then like them sinfully displease God.

The wrong behaviour of unbelievers and believers will be no excuse for you when you face the judgement of God. Never ever forget that disobeying God is always wrong no matter how many do it, and obeying God is always right even if you are the only one that does so. So take God's word to heart, "In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you" (Titus 2 v 7,8). Also "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10 v 31).
